Not really a car fit-it question, then didn't think the Garage was needed.

Anyway, I need a used card and someone I know has a 2001 Camry with 155k miles on it. Looks dandy and they say it runs cracking. They're asking $4500 but I'one thousand hoping to go down a bit form there. KBB says $4600 which is always high. Edmunds says more like $3000. Hmm.

Anyway, I know on many cars 155,000 miles is actually high. However, I e'er hear that Toyotas last forever. 99% of the time it will only exist used to get me to piece of work every day (xv infinitesimal drive).

Would you bite, or would you walk abroad? I have piddling money to spend on a automobile so this price range is most all I can swing right now.

Any opinions or experience?

Make sure you lot get a service history, or as much as one as possible, from them. Toyotas do final a long fourth dimension only if they haven't been properly maintained they won't last every bit long as they could.

Yup they final a long time if there is nothing wrong with it currently and not abused.

My granddad has a 1989'ish Camry that is still running great.

3-3.5k sounds near right.

The biggest price point for that automobile is going to come up down to interior quality. They could ask for more than KBB or Edmunds, or what have you, if they accept a peachy interior and all the beast comforts it could have come up with (leather, for instance.)

I have a Camry and it take simply 40K miles.
What's the life expectancy of my car?

I’m driving a 1993 Toyota Camry with over 235,000 miles. I accept spent almost $2,000 in maintenance on the auto since 1996, when I bought information technology with 64k on the odometer. The car runs fine and drives fine. What’south the useful life of a automobile these days? No 1 tin tell me the boilerplate life I should expect from this engine or transmission.
Mike T., Portland, Maine

You should be driving downwardly the route with a big smile on your face, because you lot certainly got your money’s worth from that Camry. Consumer Reports (www.consumerreports.org/) says the average life expectancy of a new vehicle these days is around 8 years or 150,000 miles. Of course, some well-congenital vehicles tin go 15 years and 300,000, if properly maintained.
There’due south no way to tell how much longer your machine volition stay trouble-costless, just somewhere down the road, fifty-fifty with the all-time maintenance, a major office is going to fail. “When a vehicle exceeds 200,000 miles you lot are riding on borrowed fourth dimension and the automobile is paying you dorsum,” says John Ibbotson at the Consumer Reports Motorcar Exam Center.

My neighbor has an older Camry...(non sure what year, early 2000'south) He drives well-nigh 100 miles each manner...5 days per calendar week. The car has over 385,000 miles on it.
It leaks a bit of oil...and burns a scrap, only he all the same gets about 25-30 mpg with it.

If the owners have followed the recommended maintenance schedules then 250K - 400K is reasonable.

age > miles.

the mileage is nearly average for that twelvemonth. simply simply don't think low mileage = good. if an erstwhile lady leaves a auto out in the elements for 10 years with little care, fuck miles, that thing'southward gonna be a shitheap.

that automobile will probable run another 10 years and 100K+ miles

155k is high? I thought it was pretty standard for cars these days. I almost have that much on my beamer, simply I do have to put quite a chip of maintenance into information technology. Camry should easily outlast that.

It depends greatly on how the original owner(s) take care the vehicle. I know someone who took care his vehicles very well. His electric current vehicle is over x years old and with over 100K miles yet information technology runs like new and I am sure it will last another ten years and 100K miles with no problem.

a quarter million miles is my expectation earlier a major mechanical/intermission failure which totals the car.

A few years back my x year old Camry with a little over 200,000 miles gearbox basically exploded or flare-up and destroyed the manual. Had to spend a few grand to get it replaced. It was totaled when I got into blow the following twelvemonth.
